Apposition In Marine Engineering English

This paper attempts to study the features of apposition in Marine Engineering English (MEE), as compared with the other five corpora; namely, NEC, MTE, T4, BROWNA and LOBA. The thesis focuses on the syntactic structures of appositives with explicit indicators and appositive clauses introduced by that in MEE. Moreover, the semantic relations in strict non-restrictive apposition in MEE are also studied. By means of computer software and statistical methods, quantitative analyses are carried out and comparisons are made between MEE and the other five corpora. The study reveals a number of features of apposition in Marine Engineering English.
