| This thesis consists of five parts.Part I is the literature review of researches on Tan Gong and its prose. This part not only introduces ancient people抯 textual criticism in their notes and their literary criticism on the prose of Tan Gong ,but also introduces modern scholars?researches on Tan gong and its prose.Part 2 investigates when the book was finished and who is the author. On the basis of the contents of this book and the contents quoted by others, it is thought that Tan Gong came into being about in BC 383-335,before Meng Zi was composed and after Lu Mugong .Moreover, based on the narration of Zivou抯 words and deeds conforming with etiquette and Zeng Zi抯 not exactly, it is believed Tan Gong was written by Ziyou抯 followers.Part 3 concentrates on the ideological contents of Tan Gong and its prose. The focus is simple funeral. It is both similar and different with the ideology of Mohist school. The simple funeral which conformed with etiquette and reflected the early ideology of Confucianism, supplies valuable materials to understand Confucianism.Part 4 discussed the artistic features of Tan Gong抯 prose and the influence on literature. The artistic features are divided into three binds, record utterance, historical records, and miscellanies .This part then analyzes the similarity and difference between Tan Gong抯 prose and its preceding and contemporary prose抯. In addition , this part analyzes the influence of source material, conception, language and style on later literature.Part S reviews the research monograph of Tan Gong .It mainly reviews the value and features of form and contents of the preceding monographs.
