John keats is one of the most important English Romantic poets. Most of his odes, narratives and sonnets treat of the theme of love. The love scenes in Keats?poems are warm and sensuous. But this kind of love is often threatened by the shadow of death and ends in destruction. Women in Keats?works are both pretty and flirtatious. They mean to men irresistible temptation and potential danger. This paper is focused on the poet pursuit of love as well as his despair resulting from its failure. The archetypes of the heroines in Keats?poems can be traced in Keats?life. lie started his poetical career as a result of his complex feeling for his mother, and maternal longing is an important theme in his works. Keats?Platonic love for Georgiana Wylie inspired him to write his first long narrative Endymion .Keats?love for Fanny Brawne which was a mixture of happiness and misery influenced almost all his mature works. Keats also drew an inspiration from the description of love in the works of his predecessors such as Chaucer, Spenser and Shakespear.
