This thesis, entitled 揟ropological Interactions and Ambiguity in 慗in Se敀, aims to detect the linguistic relation with thought and reality via analyzing the interactions of tropes in Chinese Tang poem 揓in Se? The tropes in the poem are divided into five categories, namely, image, modality, formality, contiguity and analogy tropes. In the process of analyzing each line of the poem, it is found that more than two tropes are engaged in imposing on the line different interpretations, which lead to what are called ambiguities. Since tropes provide human mind with an access to perceiving reality from different angles, it is evident that the linguistic role is important in relating thought and reality. Ambiguity, for its unique function of activating human抯 imagination and cognition to reality, should not be neglected but given careful scrutiny.
