John Fowles , in The French Lieutenant c Woman vertifies the view of the existentialist fieedom the world is full of hazards and opportunities , man should face and embrace it it is man's freedom ; man's freedom is relative because man has to be restricted by some power beyond control , but a man's life can be self-created if he can make sensible choices by will within the restricted situation He further points out the truth that man wearing mask yearns for and pursues freedom in the absurd world [his thesis intends to probe its theme through three parts Part I identifies Eowles's view of the existentialist freedom through analysing the experiences of Sarah and Charles's self-realization as well as the three endings of the novel Part II argues that Fowles exposes man's true self of pursuing freedom under the mask in the absurd world Part III summarizes what has been discussed and draws a conclusion...
