Under the cultural turn of translation studies, this dissertation analyses Hong-ming Ku's version of"the Analects"with the help of creative treason, it introduces the social background, Hong-ming Ku's personal character and motivation and strategy of translation and makes an analysis about his version in language and culture respectively using the writing methods of exemplifying and interpreting."The Analects"namely Confucianism, is the cultural treasure for China and even for the world, Confucianism is the crystallization of human intelligence. Hong-ming Ku's version of"the Analects"attracts translators'extensive interests because of its unique language expression of translation, this dissertation will discuss from the following five aspects. The first part shows the translation theories of this dissertation, namely creative treason and introduces its characteristics, its forming factors and essential features. The second part illustrates the reasons of causing the creative treason respectively from Ku's personality, the social background and the translational motivation, and points out that Ku was influenced deep by western romanticism because of the special life experience and years of study-abroad, due to the special Chinese social background, Ku developed into a conservatives, on account of the radical character and moral cure, he became a firm supporter of the traditional culture of Confucianism, so he tried to spread the Chinese Confucianism culture, trying to change the impression of China in the western world's eye and reshape the Oriental value. The third part points out Ku's translational strategies and characteristics in order to make the western readers understand"the Analects", he used various translation means."Domestication"was his major translational strategy; he strived to make obscure Chinese ancient literature became catchy, known western classic by using standard English language and fluent overall style of writing. The fourth part analysizes Ku's creative treason about"the Analects"from language and cultural levels respectively, On language level, the dissertation makes an analysis in"translation of keywords","translation of special sentences","translation of figures"and"translation of digitals"from the perspective of creative treason; On cultural level, the dissertation makes an analysis in"translation of proper nouns","translation of material culture","translation of social culture"and"translation of religious culture". The fifth part is the conclusion; it uses the concept of orientalism to show this version's cultural inclination and translational effects. Due to Ku's excessive pursuit of real English expression, he adopted the methods of domestication and interpretation to introduce and explain"the Analects"and thus dissolved his translational purpose, lost the possibility of complete cultural mission. In Ku's version, though translators had the good wishes to spread China's traditional culture, he did not use the proper translational strategies so that the version limited the spread of its real significance and was thoroughly deviated from translator's motivation and cultural purpose.
