Research On The Verbal Reduplication In Xi You Ji

This thesis is based on the research of verb reduplication in"Journey to the West". By analysing the forms, grammatical meanings and grammatical functions of verb reduplication in"Journey to the West",we aimed to find out the features of the verb reduplication in Ming Danasty.This thesis is divided into five chapters.Chapter one:Introduction.This part mainly introduced the current academic research work on verb reduplication which has been done by other scholars,analysed the necessity of the research,the research methods and the use of language.Chapter two:all kinds of verbs overlapping forms and the features of verb reduplication. This chapter basically introduced various forms of verb reduplication in"journey to the west".Two categories,the monosyllable and the double syllable,were discussed separately. And two aspects of syllables and format were discussed to show the characteristics of verb reduplication.Chapter three:grammatical meanings of verb reduplication.This chapter discussed the grammatical meanings of verb reduplication. By examining this book, we found that the main verb overlapping grammatical meaning is to express"the small amount and shortage of behavior".In addition, it can say more amount action, trying to do something ,and so on.Chapter four:grammatical functions of verb reduplication. According to the result of the investigation in the book, the main syntactic function of verb reduplication is predicate. It can also be used as subject,object,modifier,adverbial and complement etc sentence elements.Chapter five:epilogue.This chapter is the comprehensive closing argument to the above five parts containing the different situations about the verb reduplication in"Journey to the West".And it pointed out"journey to the west"played a very important role in the evolution of overlapping.
