Archaeology And Survey And Research Of Standing Historic Buildings

Archaeology and survey and research of standing historic buildings are both for investigating and researching the material cultural heritage, but today they are not in the same situation in China. Because of the different systems of the administrative management and disciplinary classification, there are varying degrees of gaps between the two similar types of activities. By taking reference to the western experience of "building archeology" and studying the relationship between archaeology and survey and research of standing historic buildings, we hope to record the architectural heritage by the views and attitudes of modern archaeology, and enhance the status of the standing historic buildings recording in the architectural history study and architectural heritage protection. The recording is not only an objective description of architectural heritage, but also need the understanding and awareness of architectural heritage, the analytical recording of standing historic buildings embodies the archaeological feature. The authorities, researchers and engineers concerned should view the survey and research of standing historic buildings as the archaeological activities about standing historic buildings, hence investigate and research them with archaeological perspective and attitude, so as to improve the survey and recording system.
