| Corpus is mainly used to analyze and study characteristics of the target language. With the advantages of huge capacity, authentic data, quick and accurate retrieval and convenient and time-efficient statistics, corpus is now playing an increasingly important role in language teaching. However, most corpora today are not good at information sharing. Some of them are of personal edition and others are designed for a particular course with limited capacity of retrieval and analysis. Therefore, it is necessary to integrate current teaching resources to develop an English corpus with better information sharing capacity to meet the specific needs of different universities.The paper first gave a brief introduction of corpus including its definition, characteristics and advantages of its application in foreign language teaching. Based on the current development and application of English language corpus, the paper analyzed the problems of using corpus in English language education at college and discussed the importance of developing a corpus of college English courses.In answer to the system operational requirements of Online Corpus of College English Courses and its management, the paper outlined the system operational environment and major system development technology. The paper also defined the range of corpus material selection according to the characteristics of English discipline and teaching requirements of Tianjin Foreign Studies University.Then in the basis of the selected technology platform, the paper designed the corpus and its management system both in general and in detail. It analyzed the table structure in the database, introduced elements of the system and its operational processes and designed all the functional modules under the whole system. The paper also detailed the method of automatic segmentation of original words and sentences, the process of corpus database establishment, corpus span search and statistics of search results.The paper at last illustrated how to employ ASP technology and SQL Server 2000 to realize those functional modules in the B/S mode.The paper successfully designed a small Online Corpus of College English Courses and its management system, which encompasses popular textbooks and teaching assistance materials for College English majors. It is comprehensive and pertinent to teaching and learning. The system boasts of its information sharing, convenient and diverse retrieval, and etc. It is capable of meeting college teachers'needs of doing research and classroom teaching and it also encourages learners'autonomy.
