It appears that college students study English independently with the assist of themulti-media will become a meaningful research, with the advance in multimedia technology,the development of constructivist learning theory, coupled with the rise of college Englishteaching reform and the emergence of a series of contradictions in college English teaching.It is founded that the research about teaching resources which protect independent Englishstudy is in short through the literature about " College English Independent study ".As amuch common resource, the multi-media teaching software is worth our research. Thedesign of the multimedia software determines their development, management, evaluationand other aspects, so the design of multimedia software plays a crucial role for good or badeffects of multimedia teaching software. The previous multi-media teaching software wasdesigned from a student perspective, in this study, we will discuss how to design universityEnglish multimedia software for independent study from the knowledge classificationperspective.This study is to find out the problem about the design process of existing multi-mediateaching software for college English by content analysis to know the current status ofmulti-media teaching software.It is also to find out difficulty college students have whenthey are in independent study and how to be designed the students want the software tothrough a questionnaire survey of university students.Finally, after a deep understanding oflearning theory based on the knowledge classification,this theory is as the guiding ideologyof software design and specific design strategies for declarative knowledge multimediasoftware and procedural knowledge are proposed under the guidance of this theory, whichcan change the current status of the multimedia teaching software and to meet the needs ofstudents. Finally, specific design strategies about the multimedia independent study softwareof English vocabulary, grammar, listening are proposed and the software scripts of listeningabout CET-6 is written briefly on the base of the above specific strategies.
