After the Second World War, American Jewish literature was unprecedentedly prosperous. A large number of excellent American Jewish writers and works with various themes and exquisite artistry emerged. American Jewish Literature is emerged so prosperous in regard to the maturity of themes and artistic skills, as well as the awakening of disadvantaged groups and the emergence of pluralism. When the ancient Jewish civilization encountered the modern culture, the question on how to establish the identity in multiple cultures was raised. Although made all American Jews confused, it inspired many American Jewish writers.Philip Roth, seems to be one of the most complicated American Jewish writers. Reading his books, it is recongnized that every individual is bothered and confused by identity, including the author. He seems to be a wise man who never stops thinking. Many people know that he was called "Jewish Key" because he had exposed the weakness of Jewish culture. However, few know that he also had criticized American society severely, which is so-called the land of "flowing with milk and honey'"American Trilogy", in one word, is "the story about America". Taking "American identity" as object of study, with regards to American political, social and cultural background, the thesis follows Roth's speculation about "American identity" and uncovers Roth's unique achievement on construction of cultural identity by the fundamental approaches of text analysis and cultural interpretation.
