Through the analysis of Yasi's six novels (including four short stories, a medium-length novel and a long one), this thesis focuses on the narrative of Hong Kong popular culture and tries to explore Yasi's attitude towards the openness and toleration of Hong Kong culture. This thesis develops into five chapters. In the Introduction part, Yasi's creating process and his main works are introduced. By reviewing the current research on Yasi's major works and the newspaper culture in Hong Kong, the author puts forward the idea that Yasi should keep a balance between commercial elements and serious elements during his creation of works. Chapter two analyzes the humorous elements in the four short novels, where Yasi satirizes and criticizes the problems of Hong Kong popular culture through such narrative techniques as symbolization, absurdity and stream of consciousness. In the next chapter, how Yasi makes use of the travel information in Cites of Memory, Cites of Fabrication to explore the formal contact between travel and psychological consciousness and express his introspection and search for Hong Kong culture will be discussed. In Chapter Four, the culture role of food is analyzed and the culture symbols of food in Postcolonial Affairs of Food and the Heart are discussed. Chapter Five explores the multi-narrative construction of Hong Kong popular culture in Yasi's novels, namely, the sensual communication of popular element, soul communication of serious themes and constructive culture discussion. From the six novels, it can be seen that Yasi has actively absorbed Hong Kong commercial culture elements and created his works on this basis. In his novels, Yasi makes suggestions on how to develop popular and serious culture, and at the same time he is looking for a perspective on how to balance and improve the relationship of popular and serious culture.
