Peer assessment is an innovative concept which is utilized as a supplement of teacher assessment and it has been applied in various teaching fields nowadays.This thesis, for pedagogy purpose, focuses on the effectiveness of the optimized peer assessment. In order to optimize peer assessment, students'most concerns when assessing, students'ways to make peer feedback and their responses to it are also the important aspects of the research. The research is conducted on the basis of the following questions:1) What are similarities and differences of peer assessment between Class 1 and Class 2? 2) How do students make peer feedback and respond to it? 3) What influences does peer assessment bring forward to in-class performance and individuals? 4) Is it effective of the optimized peer assessment to improve students' speaking ability?The results can be generalized in three aspects.1) With the implications achieved from the pilot study, students are more aware of the important aspects in the assessing process. Therefore, they know how to better train and adjust themselves as speakers. A variety of data verify that the optimized peer assessment can improve students'ability of rating and commenting. Meanwhile, it is also effective to improve students'speaking ability.2) Most students have the positive attitude toward peer assessment, agreeing with the effectiveness of peer assessment to improve one's speaking ability, ability of critical thinking, communicative ability, learning autonomy and attention of class, etc.3) The research conforms to the principle of student-centeredness, which determines that students shall be more independent and more autonomous in class. With the implications of the pilot study, teachers need to value students'affective factors and decrease in-class interference so that students can participate actively in in-class activities and take responsibilities.
