Objective To explore the profile of false memory in aMCI,and to find out the neuropsychological mechanism of false memory. Methods False memory provoked by pictures and feeling-of-knowing (FOK) test in episodic memory (EM) were conducted by 25 aMCI patients who were selected from the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University from October 2009 to may 2010 and 25 age and education level-matched healthy people, which were regarded as healthy control (HC) group,as well as explicit memory tasks (immediate recall, delay recall, delay recognition) and other neuropsychological tests. Results The aMCI group had recalled less cards [(84%±10%) vs (99%±8 %), t=-6.135, P<0.01] and story elements [(69%±13%) vs (86%±6%) ,t=-5.634, P<0.01] when recalling their original stories compared to the HC group. The aMCI group responded correctly to (83%±5%) of the recognition items compared to controls who answered correctly (96%±4%) of the time in questionnaire stage, this difference was also significant (t=-9.608, P<0.01 ) . Compared with HC group, the rate of false memory was higher in aMCI group [the rate of false memory in story recall stage was (26%±7%) , the rate of false memory in questionnaire stage was (28%±12%)] , and the difference between the two group was significant (t=14.437,7.597, P<0.05) . The FOK-EM of correct judgment and false recognition in the aMCI group (41%±10%) was higher than HC group, and the difference was significant (t=4.207,P<0.05) . The rate of the false memory in story recall stage and in questionnaire stage are positively correlated with FOK-EM in aMCI group (r=0.563,0.705,P<0.01) .Conclusion The aMCI patients make more false memory provoked by pictures and their explicit memory were impaired . Except for impairment in explicit memory, the deficit of memory monitoring in aMCI may be the foundation of the false memory.
