The Research On Chinese Construction "V+de+C"

The Chinese construction"V+de+C"includes several different genres of verb‐complement constructions, which have complex and intricate relationship on both synchronic and diachronic level. Based on the theory of abduction, this paper explores the different resources and paths of grammaticalization of"V+de+C"which are verified by the approaches of typology and cognition, and tries to re‐describe the processes of formation and development of the different"V+de+C"constructions and further solve some practical problems. This paper includes following eight parts.The introduction makes the hypothesis that"V+de+C"have different resources based on previous research and holds the point that the"V+de+C"indicating fact derived from the"V+de+C"indicating potential according to the theory of abduction.The first chapter, The Classification of"V+de+C", tries to re‐classify"V+de+C"constrictions according to the difference of indicating fact and potential by means of the syntactic methods and semantic orientation. It tries to describe the formation and development of different genres of"V+de+C"through synchronic inference.The second chapter, the Grammaticalization of"V+de+C", describes the formation and development of different genres of"V+de+C"by studying the historical materials. The result shows that"V+de+C"has two resources:"( N 1 + ) V 1 +de+N 2 +V 2 /A"and"VC". This chapter verifies the synchronic inference in chapter one from the diachronic aspect.The third chapter, the Typological Exploration of the Resources of"V+de+C", verifies the different resources of"V+de+C"through a large amount of materials of Chinese dialects in which it is usual that the two different complementizers of"V+de+C"respectively indicating fact and potential are in complementary distribution.The fourth chapter, the Motivation and Mechanism of the Formation of"V+de+C", explains why and how different genres of"V+de+C"constructions form and develop through cognitive approaches of categorization, ideal cognitive models, salience, etc. The fifth chapter, The Reasons of Entanglement of"V+de+C"and The Standards of Distinction , explains the reason why the boundaries of different"V+de+C"are not clear.The sixth chapter, Several Problems Concerning"V+de+C", first explains the reasons of the asymmetry of negation and affirmation of"V+de+C". It also analyzes the difference between"V+de+C potential","neng‐VC"and"neng‐V+de+C". And it discusses the conditions of the transposition of adverbials and complements following"de".The seventh chapter summarizes the opinions of this paper and presents some related problems which have not been studied in depth and also the proposals to solve them.
