A Study Of Language Phenomena And Culture Factors In The Street-names Of The Old Chongqing

Chongqing is a city famous for its long history and its mountains."Ancient city", means the city having long history;"Mountain city", points its special geographical situation. This article researches the names of streets in 1981 from linguistics and cultural aspects. The whole article includes 6 parts.Chapter one: the introduction. This is a wrap-up of street name research. In this chapter, at first, I give the street-name a definition; The second, I point out the characters and subject framework of the street-name-research; The third, I retrospect the street-name-research in old time and now both in China and abroad; Lastly, I propose the vital point of this article.Chapter two: the analysis of street-name's structure in old Chongqing. In this chapter, on the one hand, I give a research on the structure of syllable in the street-names of old Chongqing; on the other hand, I study the constitution of morphemes in the street-name of old Chongqing. As a result, I find the structure of syllable and the constitution of morphemes in street-name of old Chongqing is tally with the developing nature of all Chinese street-name.Chapter three: the study in the naming of these streets and their type analysis. In this chapter, I give a brief introduction to the typical Chinese street-naming. And conclude its characteristics from the political, geographical and cultural angles, Then, I analyses the naming types of old Chongqing's street-names in quality and quantity, and the reasons of its formation. This chapter suggests that there exist sectional nuances of old Chongqing street-names.Chapter four: The sectional distributional analysis of old Chongqing streets-naming. In this chapter, I research the old Chongqing street-names with R type clustering and explain the reason of it.Chapter five: the relationship between old Chongqing street-names with natural and cultural environment. In this chapter, I study the factors of geography, immigrant, culture and development of economy which influence on old Chongqing street-names.Chapter six: The conclusion. The old Chongqing street-names generally tally with the development of Chinese street-names; however, it develops its own characteristics for geographical, historical and economical reasons. That is the reflection of language and culture in old Chongqing.
