The Study Of Tao Bi's Poems

Tao Bi, the well known litterateur and strategist in Northern Song Dynasty, was not only good at leading the army but also at writing poems, which were in people's attention. By reviewing literature, this study aimed to restitute Tao Bi's character, collect his poems and disabled poems, and proofread his poems in the all poems of Song as well. In order to have a better understanding of the style of Tao Bi's poems, this study made efforts to explore the art style and ideological content of Tao Bi's poems, as well as compare the style of Tao Bi and Late Tang Dynasty. This thesis consists of three parts:In the first part, this study outlined the life of Tao Bi, the source of his thoughts, the version of his poems and intercourse with his friends as well. Born in a hereditary family in the middle Song Dynasty, Tao Bi who was an apprentice of Ding Wei had a reputation as an expert on poetry and history. During the period of Ren Zong, Tao Bi assisted the attorney general Yang Tian, and he became the Canjun of Heng Zhou. Then Tao Bi governed Bing Zhou, Rong Zhou, Qing Zhou, Ding Zhou, Chen Zhou, and Shun Zhou successively, and governed Yong Zhou twice. In the life of Tao Bi, he loved poetry very much, and wrote the poetry book《poetry in Yong Zhou》. Unfortunately, much of poem has lost.In the second part, the authors aimed at collecting his lost poems including the disabled ones. By reviewing literature about his poems, the authors found that the book《all poems of Song》is the most comprehensive one. According to the《Song dynasty short book poetry in Yong Zhou》and other books, the authors sorted out 161 poems in Chapter 406 and 407 of《all poems of Song》. However, due to the vast workload of this project, editors inevitably lost, so the authors collected Tao Bi's lost poems and the disabled ones. Second, the authors referred a lot of classical literature, and did a correction of poetry. Third, the authors of some poems were controversial, such as《Camellia》, which is considered wrote by Yang Wanli or Zhu Xi, so did《Fisherman in river》. For such problems, this study made discrimination analysis, which is the most difficult in this study.In the third part, the study analyzed the artistic characteristics and the content of Tao Bi's poems. Generally Tao Bi wrote poems about scenery, customs and military themes, which expressing feelings of the poet's hermits, as well as aspirations blighted. In the art style, the poems were fresh and interesting, added some comments, and the language was plain and attractive.
