IAD (Internet Addiction Disorder) is one of the heated topic these years at home and abroad. In this research, questionnaire is used to analyze the correlation between IAD and self-esteem. There are 477 subjects, urban middle school students, and the data are processed with SPSS 16.0. Followings are the findings:First,15% urban Middle School students suffer from IAD, higher than the previous research data, consistent with the research conducted by Fei Lixia, etc., in contrast with result from Liu Yuyuan and Lang Yan. The high ratio of IAD among urban middle school students urgently calls for attention from the society, especially educators.Second, there is a tendency in the urban city that boys are more obviously inclined to suffer from IAD than girls, which is consistent with studies home and abroad.Third, there is no sharp self-esteem discrepancy in gender, which is consistent with research on self-esteem among urban middle school students conducted by Yang Fuyi and Zhang Fujuan, Zhang Wenxin. While the finding is, inconsistent with that of Zhang Xiaoyuan who finds that male esteem level is higher than that of female in military schools, inconsistent with that of Zhang Yu Aiyue who holds that sharp self-esteem discrepancy exists among 259 male and female medical majors in Shaoxing University.Fourth, no discrepancy concerning self-esteem is found between schools.Fifth, sharp IAD discrepancy is found between schools, due to the school educational quality, administration and surroundings. Largely, the reason lies in that these years an increasing number of primary school graduates rush to the famous middle schools, which influence the admission of students.Sixth, no obvious correlation is found between IAD and self-esteem among urban middle school students, which is seen from analysis by SPSS 16.0. Schools exert no effects on students in terms of self-esteem, while they do in terms of IAD frequency, from which it is safe to conclude that no obvious correlation exists between IAD and students'self-esteem.
