Li Ying is one of the most influential figures in the history of Chinese contemporary poetry. He explores and pursues tirelessly for decades on poetry, and has spared no effort to contribute a lot to the prosperity and sustainable development of this field. As time changed, his lyric subject was shifting from earlier warrior to the poet himself and his consciousness of self and life were strengthening gradually, which were an important breakthrough of the "inward turn" of his poetry in 1990s.In the introduction, it makes a systematic review on the relevant background and process of Li Ying's researches, with an attempt to define "inword turn" clearly. In the first chapter, it makes a general view of his poetry before 1990s which shows Li Ying's revolutionary zeal and rigid-flexible artistic style. In the second chapter, it deeply analyzes how Li Ying's poetry turns inwards. It is the new rising on life, new exploration on arts and new construction on inner view that contribute to the "turn inward" of his poetry in 1990s. In the third chapter, it analyzes the main reason for the "inward turn" through the analysis of Li Ying's character and Qu Yuan's worried manner. Li Ying has constructed a "personal poetry pedigree" which established his status in the poetry circle and also inspired and influenced far-reachingly in this area.In 1990s, Li Ying's poetry turned inwards to the art, life and soul. He has made outstanding achievements and gained infinite artistic life within his limited life time. His poetry which owns fresh flavor of times and heavy sense of mission and responsibility will be popular with people throughout times.
