| Constructivist learning theory (CLT) is an important branch of cognitive learning theory, which was first proposed by Swiss psychologist, Piaget. CLT defines learning as a process of acquiring knowledge in certain situations with the help of others. The present study mainly focuses on how to cultivate non-English major's intercultural communication competence (ICC) from the perspective of CLT.First of all, the present paper discusses the importance of cultivating ICC, current cultural?teaching practices in college English Teaching, an essential element in ICC, the significance of constructivism in language teaching, and the purpose, significance and structure of the present paper. Then the author introduces the concepts of ICC and CLT and gives a brief introduction to the previous studies on the cultivation of ICC.In addition, in order to make full use of CLT in cultivating non-English majors'ICC, the author adopts Wang Zhenya'Social Culture Test, Chen & Storasta's Intercultural Sensitivity Scale and open questionnaire to have an investigation of the current culture teaching for non-English majors in Chongqing Normal University. According to the analysis of the results, the author apply two teaching models and some specific teaching strategies to cultivate students'ICC from perspective of CLTFinally, the article describes the practical significance of applying CLT to non-English majors'ICC development. It is expected that the present paper can help English teachers acquire a deeper understanding of CLT in culture teaching. |
