Reflections On Translation Subjectivity From The Perspective Of Deconstructive Text Theory

Thousands years history of translation is in fact a romance of the author and the translator. Along with the upsurge of Post-structuralism, especially deconstructionism, studies on subjectivity has made remarkable progresses and the problematic issues involving the translation subjectivity have attracted more and more attention.Due to the diversified text theories existing in different historical stages, the statuses of translation subjects have experienced different degrees of transitions. Taking the relationship between text theory and translation subjectivity as the breakthrough point, the present thesis mainly discusses the exertions of the author's and the translator's subjectivities under the influence of deconstructive text theory.At the beginning, the present thesis conceptualizes some key ideas, such as text theory, translation subjects and translation subjectivity, and reviews the relevant studies at home and abroad. In the second chapter, the relationship between the author and the translator and their statuses in translation practice are reviewed in three historical stages-the philological stage, the structural linguistic stage and the post-structural stage. In the third chapter, the hermeneutic foundation of text theories before deconstructionism is discussed and deconstructive text theory is summarized as the theoretical foundation of the study. The fourth chapter mainly focuses on the relationship between text theory and translation subjectivity and explores into the influences of deconstructive text theory on translation subjectivity from the perspectives of the author and the translator.The present thesis tends to rethink the translation subjectivity under the influence of deconstructive text theory. It is hoped to give some help to translation theorists and make them fully aware of the extremist and nihilistic tendency emerged in translation subjectivity studies.
