With the method of contrastive analysis, the present thesis intends to analyze the features of China English, which is in a transitional stage from performance variety to institutionalized variety. It focuses on the study of features at the lexical, syntactic level and discourse level.Currently, language contact theory is mainly applied to the research of dialects, and it is seldomly used in the analysis of China English. A number of researches take qualitative and quantitative analysis as the analytical tools, while few apply the contrastive analysis. Besides, attributing to the obvious features, the studies of China English is mainly made at the lexical level rather than at the syntactic and discourse level. Based on the previous research, this thesis attempts to employ the theory of language contact and contrastive analysis method, and investigates and summarizes features of China English by analyzing the 20 pieces of news from China Daily and New York Times respectively ranging from 2007 to 2011.This research is of certain practical significance. Firstly, this study may be taken for reference in English teaching. Teachers should help their students learn to express Chinese unique things in English, and encourage students to read English books which introduce Chinese traditions to enrich their knowledge. Secondly, this research may help people improve their cross-cultural communication competence, and facilitate English users with advanced knowledge in expressing things with Chinese characteristics. Thirdly, this study is helpful for the standardization of Chinese-English translations, which can better clarify the goals of translation.
