In the study of the first generation female writers, the research of Ling Shuhua is the weakest one. There are about two reasons. First, most of the researchers paid attentions to Ling Shuhua's noble race and her achievements in1920s.Second, most of the researches focused on Ling Shuhua's works, when the attentions on the person herself is not enough. But we should know the person accurately and clearly if we want to study one's literature creation. One of the main causes lead to this phenomenon is the lack of the historical materials and woks. Material deletions is easy to cause the simplistic and one-sided research. Mr Chen compiles The Chinese Children in 2008, which contains several woks just like novels, fairy tales, proses, poetry, speeches, letters and so on. They are very impointant to do more researches of Ling Shuhua. Especially the book A Thousand miles of dreams written by the American scholar Wei Shuling, the book Lily Briscoe's Chinese Eyes written by Laurence.P, provide a lot of new materials which are difficult to see in China. This paper attempts to give attentions to the aspects which are not be fully understood, to present a more complex and more real Ling Shuhua on the base of digging the new clueds. This paper will be divided into three chapters to disscuss the theme.Chapter One: Between the modern women and graceful lady. This chapter observes Ling Shuhua's two-faced personality which is both modern and traditional from the aspects of culture resources, value pursuits and marriage pursuits. The two strands of sprit blended in Ling Shuhua's body. It often shows the two sides toghter on Ling Shuhua's thoughts and behaviors. Most of the previous researchers noticed the fact that Ling Shuhua created a lot of females who were in a tight box between the new age and traditional background. But it is not enough on why she wrote them. If we kowns that Ling Shuhua herself is one who lies btween modern and traditional thoughts, we can understand her woks much easier.Chapter Two: Between the detachment and anxiety. Ling Shuhua rarely related to politics in her novels, even in the 1930s when both of the domestic and ethnic tensions were sharp, what presented in her woks still was indifferent to the scene, so the researchers saw Ling Shuhua as"alienated from the political", but there is blank on Ling Shuhua's real feelings and the damages to her in the war. This chapter will inclued the letters into the research, to pay attention to the different descriptions and the emotion prevealed in her private letters, in order to present the unkown sides of Ling Shuhua. Chapter Three:Btween the importation and and transformation in English creation. There is no specialized study on Ling Shuhua's translations. The study of Acient Melodies is also not deep enough. This chapter will probe into Ling Shuhua's literary pursuits and values through the literary interaction between Ling Shuhua and Julian,Woolf. In short, this paper focuses on the complicated phenomenons between the surface and deep thought, the speech and action, and the efforts and results, to study Ling Shuhua's complex identity, thoughts and values.
