Language is a kind of social phenomenon, and society also has great influence on language vise versa. In Jef Verschuren's opinion, the process of language use is also the process of linguistic choice. Based on Verschuren's theory, Yu Guodong puts forward his code-switching adaptation model. Yu thinks the bilingual communication of code-switching is under the concrete embodiment of adaptation and the bilingual communication of code-switching establishment with the principle of highly flexible language behavior. He divided code-switching into three aspects: linguistic reality, social convention and psychological motivation.Code-switching is a kind of complex language phenomenon, refers to the fact that people transform a language or variant into another language or variant in the same dialog or conversation process. From the 1970s code-switching enormously aroused researchers'attention in different fields. Western linguists and researchers analyze it from many aspects, such as social linguistics, psycholinguistics, applied linguistics, grammar, ethnolinguistics, syntax, conversation analysis, pragmatics and some other fields. Those researchers (Auer, Gumperz, Mysers-Scotton, Poplack, Verschueren, etc.) have made extensive study and put forward some constructive ideas, theories or models. As a natural result of language contact, code-switching, is a subject of public concern. Owing to their own research objectives, every researcher has a different point of view. Many problems concerning with code-switching need to be scientifically verified and interpreted, such as definition and classification of this phenomenon, and these problems has become and will turn into the hot spot issue of code-switching research after decades. With the world economic development, international exchanges have greatly increased, people between different cultures contact increasingly and exchange their idea more frequently. This provides a broad space for code-switching development. The corpus of previous studies are based on campus, family, classroom teaching, advertising, television programme, newspapers and magazines, and the number of code-switching research about English and Chinese in movies is scarce. This article aims to apply adaptation theory to analyze the phenomenon of English and Chinese code-switching in the movie. In code-switching process, a speaker adjusts his or her speech style in order to obtain approval, improve communication efficiency, or to maintain consistent with each other's style. Based on Verschuren's linguistic adaptation theory and Yu Guodong's adaptation model of code-switching, this paper systematically analyses English and Chinese code-switching in the movie GoLaLaGo.The study on the adaptation theory of English and Chinese code-switching in the movie, provided new examples about this phenomenon and gave an effective support to the adaptation model of code-switching. The study may help people have a better understanding of cross-cultural communication and the increasing code-switching phenomenon so as to improve the foreign language learners apprehensive level. Finally, the study concludes with several new research viewpoints about code-switching phenomenon between English and Chinese and sheds light on bilingual or multilingual teaching and learning.
