"Wei" is an extremely unique category of Chinese classical aesthetics. Rich aesthetic thoughts form with "Wei" as the center Exploring the conception, properties, characteristics and development of "Wei" systematically, is significant to understanding "Wei" and its contemporary value. The article is divided into five parts:Introduction: Briefly introduces the researches of "Wei", and expounds the research ideas of this paper, in order to finish a relatively comprehensive and systematic study on this problem. Part 1: Aesthetic causes and meanings of "Wei". Here we briefly discuss the reasons of "Wei" going into the aesthetic field. The rich food culture of China, unique ways of thinking of ancient Chinese and the development of classical aesthetics and literature provide external objective reality to "Wei". Its own senses, neutralization, sensuality and analogy are the root cause of its going into the aesthetic field. Secondly, the aesthetic connotation of "Wei" develop from the two meanings of the word "Wei" : on the one hand, it refers to the aesthetic connotations of the aesthetic objects and means its unique beauty and aesthetic characteristics; On the other hand it refers to the aesthetic appreciation and activities by the aesthetic subjects and means the aesthetic experience and acceptation. Again, from the two levels -accepting theory and writing theory, the "Wei" category can divided into two types. And subjectivity, the blending between the scenery depicted and the emotions expressed, the Interactivity between subject and object is three characteristics of "Wei".Part 2: The development of "Wei" in Chinese classical aesthetics. The "Wei"category sprouts in the dynasties of the pre-qin and Han.During this period, it has not been developed into an independent aesthetics category, but already contains aesthetics factor. The objects of "Wei" are those things that do not need deep taste and experience. The form of the objects has become the main aesthetic contents. And people understand the objects more emphasis on the rational knowledge but the individuality and sensibility is ignored corresponding. The second stage, the dynasty of Weijin and songYuan is the period that the "Wei" category formated and developed. In the field of art creation, people pay more attention to the combination of the form of the art work and the meanings of the artists and pursue not only form but also spirit. In the aesthetic activities, people mobilize the aesthetic emotion actively. This aesthetic emotion includes rational thinking and perceptual experience. People decompose the connotation and meaning of aesthetic objects constantly. During the Ming and Qing dynasty , there has not any important research about the "Wei" theory and it has developed into a generalization category. People's daily aesthetic activities and literary creation attaches more importance to the secular emotions. In this part, we discuss "Wei" from the aesthetic theory and explore its development characteristics from literary and artistic creation and people's daily aesthetic activities.Part 3: The aesthetics value and contemporary influence of "Wei". "Wei" has exerted an important influence to Chinese classical aesthetic ideal as "neutralization", to the aesthetic style and aesthetic psychology such as "Purify the mind and Appreciate the object "."Wei" also has very close ties with "mood" and "Yun".The contemporary value of "Wei" is mainly manifested in that it promotes cultural and art towards the aesthetic, artistic and poetic direction, pays more attention to the regression of life and perceptual, and inspires us to recognize the world , establish the modern aesthetic system with the thinking mode of the fusion of subjective and objective. Conclusion: Summary the research content of this paper comprehensively.
