Franz Liszt is an outstanding representative of the 19th century European Romantic Musicians, he pioneered a new music form, the "symphonic poem". This paper intends to explore the root causes of the generation of Liszt's symphonic poem by analyzing relevant documents of the Liszt's symphonic poem in the historic context of the development of programme music; concurrently, makes a comparative analysis of the literary trends of the Romantic period and the creative idea of Liszt's symphonic poem to find out the influence of Humanism on Liszt's symphonic poem, and the unique contribution that Liszt made for Romantic Music.Through in-depth analysis of Liszt's symphonic poem, the research significance of this paper lies in exploring the intrinsic relationship between the romantic period literature and music, making clear the unique quality of Liszt's symphonic poem that different of classical music, being well aware of the importance of Liszt's symphonic poem in the history of Western music, to broaden our understanding of the diversity of Western music.The basic conclusion of this article is this:Liszt, through his extraordinary talent for music has given some of the great works of literature a new life. The tight joint of Liszt's symphonic poem creation and literary forms a new integrated arts, makes music full of new charms. Liszt's music creative ideas deeply influenced the development of European music in the late nineteenth century, inspired the later musicians, encouraged them to constantly explore wonderful artistic conception of the integration between music and literature, its influence continues to this day.
