Pain And Poetry

Mu Dan's life was ups and downs, not only full of painful experience, but also poetry creation. Pain is the wealth of the poet. The poet's poem lifetime can be roughly divided into three periods:the spring period of Mu Dan's lifetime, the summer period of Mu Dan's lifetime and the autumn and winter period of Mu Dan's lifetime, bounded by his return to homeland in the early'50s and the end of the Cultural Revolution. In the three historical periods, due to different historical circumstances and the changing state of mind of the poet, his poems show different spirits and characteristics:his early poems full of the youth's anger and passion. Facing sufferings, Mu Dan thought intellectually and metaphysically with modern poetry, examined the "paradox" situation in which human exists with modem sense, criticized the shortcomings of human society brought by modern civilization and showed a broad-minded but chilling wild world; till the middle age, individual writing made it difficult to be accept by the times, under the conditions of his being deprived of the rights to write poems, he was forced to turn to poem translation and assumed the responsibility of the Renaissance. At the end of the Cultural Revolution, Mu Dan resumed writing and his poems at this time showed more about the transparent of the thought and cold injury contained in it.In every stage of his lifetime, Mu Dan described his painful experience of life, which came from his concern about human being. During the lifetime of his poems, a spiritual force was always permeated in them, which was the art conscience that the poet was sticking to. Mu Dan touched the deterioration of human nature, felt the anguish of the era and excavated the depth of the heart in his poems which were full of a tough, sincere spiritual character. This spiritual character of Mu Dan was also seen as an important bearer of Lu Xun's spiritual ancestry. Mu Dan's poetry not only pays attention to the perception of reality, but also concern to search the modern poetry which can reflect for "intellectual" writing and poetry "defamiliarization".This paper is to excavate the modern poetry of Mu Dan's poems from the perspective of his pain experience, combined with text analysis. The thinking, language and modern art showed in his poems expand the poetic space for the development of Chinese new poetry greatly and remodel a high standard in the modern history of Chinese poetry.
