Abstract/Summary:
Negation is an important linguistic phenomenon which existed in any kind of languages around the word. There are something same but more differences between Chinese negative expression and English negative expression. There are many strategies of negative expression in Chinese. During the teaching and study of Chinese as foreign language, many students make mistakes because of lacking of understanding in the characteristics and regulations of Chinese negative expression. Moreover, with the negative effects of their mother language, they are easy to make variety errors which affect the communication in Chinese.Therefore, this thesis focuses on a comprehensive comparison between Chinese negative expression and English negative expression. The whole thesis is divided into five sections:The first section is based on the research of the seniors and scholars to explain the reason why we choose this topic, the aim and the meaning of this thesis.The second section compare mainly from following three aspects of word formation,part of speech,affix (or morpheme),in order to find out the similarities and differences between Chinese negative words and English negative words.The third section is mainly about syntax position, scope of negation, negative focus. Then we discuss the reasons that caused these similarities and differences between Chinese negative expression and English negative expression.The fourth section carried out the contrastive analysis of the unmarked negative expression in both languages.The fifth section is put the former research on helping the second language teaching and learning. Analyses and summarizes the errors in negation expressions, then point out the solutions and suggestions on Chinese negation expression teaching and learning.
