Documentary Subtitle Translation And Narratology

With the deepening of the reform and opening-up, the exchange between China and the world become more and more frequent. Many foreign cultural achievements such as documentary films have been introduced to China and have greatly influenced Chinese people's life. In order to make the audience understand and appreciate the documentary film easily and exactly, it is an urgent to do the researches on documentary film translation. In this thesis, the issue is talked from the different points of views by applying narratology. The first part gives an overview of the issue, including the significance of the research and the target that the thesis plans to get.The second part generally introduces the history of film translation in China and the present translation of documentary film. It focuses on the theoretical frame. In this part the narratology will be elaborated in detail. The relationship among the documentary, the culture, and the narratology will also be discussed. According to the features of documentary film, it discusses the possibility of its translation under the direction of narratology.In the third part, the documentary film, focuses on its history and present development, its classification, its feature and its other aspects. This part also covers the subtitle of documentary film.In the fourth part,some vivid examples will be given to show the issue. In this part, the author sums up the translation strategies according to the aim of the documentary film. The examples can demonstrate the purpose of the thesis better.The fifth part is the conclusion part, which sums up the whole thesis. It analyses the translation strategies, points out the achievements and the shortcomings of the thesis.
