Doris Lessing,the important English writer after the world warâ…¡, is known by The Grass is Singing and The Golden Note in the literature world. The 2007 Nobel Literature Prize made her one of the most important modern female English writer after Virginia Woolf.The Grass is Singing, which got published in 1950, is Lessing's novel. The novel is about the experience of an Anglo-Saxon girl in the southern African, and the themes cover her other works. The multi-theme characteristic was from its special narrative technique, which leaves a mount of the blank which invites continuously the collaboration of the readers, and evokes the imagination of the readers to explain the theme of the work by the multi-direction. The thesis analyzes the narrative strategy of the text and discusses the deep reason of the multi-theme characteristic, on the basis of the aesthetics response, which displays the special aesthetic value.The thesis includes four chapters, Chapter 1 analyzes the response-inviting structures of the narrative focus and sound and speed. Chapter 2 analyzes the response-inviting structures of the subject indication and character indication of the text. Chapter 3 analyzes the response-inviting structures of the chord phenomenon including implied narration and displacement narration. Chapter 4 analyzes the response-inviting structures of the language including recount and image and dream and illusion. The inviting-response structures can improve the interaction between the reader and the text, and make the readers explain endlessly the theme of the work, although the readers are difficult to understand them.
