Macroscopically, time consists of the"past", the"present"and the"future", of which"future"is an important part, and all languages have the corresponding category and means of expression. But owing to the absence of inflectional forms as in Indo-European languages, Chinese mainly adopts the lexical means such as time nouns, time adverbs and auxiliary verbs, which are also the research focus of this paper, to express future rather than grammatical means. According to the author's investigation, the future grammatical category and the words used to express future have not been paid much attention, nor are the teaching researches of the future time vocabulary which is usually scattered in the discussion of time adverbs of most grammar monographs. This dissertation, based on the error analysis of foreign students, intends to single the future time vocabulary out for a systematical study, which, on one hand, can provide Chinese teachers with some useful advice in making teaching strategy, on the other hand, can help foreign students learn time adverbs, time nouns and auxiliary verbs which are notorious for their difficulty both in teaching and learning. The main body of this dissertation comprises five chapters: the first chapter is to review the researches ever made in this field, and then briefly introduce the sources of the language materials and the research methods. In second chapter, an analysis is made of the foreign students'errors selected from the HSK corpus to discover the causes of these errors. Based on the error analysis made in the last chapter, we will make a preliminary study of the grammatical mistakes found in second language learners'wrong sentences. In the fourth chapter, the author will propose his teaching suggestions. In chapter five, a teaching plan will be designed according to the teaching suggestions proposed in the fourth chapter.
