Communication is the mode of human existence and the way of human life. It is a common phenomenon of the history of human society. However, some new changes of communication appear in modern society, especially with the advanced science and technology. On the one hand the new changes bring in some positive effects; on the other hand the new changes bring in some negative effects. Expounding the relationship between modern communication and human development is important to the communication theory and the human development theory of Marxist Philosophy. It also has an important significance in this society.The main body of this article is divided into four parts:The first part discusses the communication of philosophy in the general meaning. It contains: the concept of communication; the feature of communication; the type of communication. The feature of communication includes: social history; intermediary; intersubjectivity. The type of communication is researched from two fundamental aspects:synchronic state and diachronic state. Then, it analyzes the evolution of the communication style in order to bring up the modern communication. Communication style goes through Pre-modern agrarian society; Modern society; Contemporary information society.The second part mainly expounds"social communication is the mode of social existence of man". First of all, this part analyzes the role of communication in human development, it contains four factors: communication and person's social relations development; communication and person's ability development; communication and personality development; communication and meeting human needs. Secondly, this part analyzes the external conditions which the communication provides. It contains two factors: communication promotes the development of productive forces; communication promotes the social system reform. Finally, this part elaborates three historical periods about the relationship between communication and human development in the general meaning. It contains three respects: narrow communication and one-sided development; forced communication and human alienation; widespread communication and all-round development. The third part analyzes the changes about the communication in modern society. First, it is discussed with four respects: the object of communication; the means of communication; the space of communication; the content of communication. Secondly, there are two effects, which are produced by the modern communication. The positive effects include: modern communication greatly promotes the human social relations; the quality of human capacity; the human personality and greatly meets people's needs. The negative effects include: the interests of modern communication and the emotional appeal goes against; virtual communication causes the risk of human life; global communication has brought in the multiple effects.The fourth part puts forward the measures, which settled the problem with the human development. The measures contain: developing the material productivity; establishing rational social system; paying attention to the spiritual communication; attaching importance to the human practice. The modern society could become more harmony with expounding the relationship between modern communication and human development.
