"The Norwegian Wood " is one of the Murakami Haruki's most representative works, which tells a love story of two youngsters who lived in an age of great changes in the 1960s. The romantic entanglement between the hero and heroine, as well as the analysis on the theme of life and death, sex and love etc. reveals the living fettle and mental characteristics of Japanese youth under the reflection of that era. In the novel, the description of character is dimensional and the language description is humorous and penetrating. Besides, the plot is ingeniously and naturally designed and the narrative rhythm is of rock and roll type. The perfect combination of symbolism and impressionism is creating a great atmosphere and the theme is striking a responsive chord in the hearts of its readers. All these reflect the deep narrative skills of Murakami Haruki and the unique way with which he interprets the youth.This article aims at analyzing The Norwegian Wood to reflect the peculiar youth idiosyncrasy of Japanese youth under the background of times change and analyzing the ideological and artistic features exhibited in the works to explore the unique way with which Murakami Haruki interprets youth.
