| This paper took the Modern Chinese Supposed Compound Sentences as the range of study, mainly discussed several pragmatic problems of them, by applying both the description approach and the explanation approach , and using some relevant pragmatic theories. First, studied the selection and the omission of Modern Chinese Supposed Compound Sentences, and thought that the factors which would affect the process of the selection included: the process of double syllable, the literary form, the literary style and the speaker's psychology; and the factor which would affect the process of the omission is mainly the context; and thought that both the two processes would be influenced by the Economy Principle. Second, according to relevant pragmatic theories of Grice and Austin, thought that the Supposed Compound Sentences could express various conversational implicature, and had the functions of the perlocutionary act. And then, based on Xing Fu-yi′s discussion on the Supposed Compound Sentences, proposed four new pragmatic functions, they are," used to compare", "used to describe or explain", "used to complain or criticize" and "used to express rejoicing ". Meanwhile, according to Brown & Levinson's "Face Theory" and Leech's "Politeness Principle", thought that the Politeness Principle was consistent to the Supposed Compound Sentences. Finally, discussed the frequent use of four figures of speech in Modern Chinese Supposed Compound Sentences, which are metaphor, hyperbole, euphemism and parallelism, and tried to analyze the reasons why they are often used together. This paper tried hard to provide some reference to people who learn Chinese as the first language as well as people who learn Chinese as the second language, by doing the pragmatic research of several problems on the Modern Chinese Supposed Compound Sentences. And made the preliminary attempt in the research of the pragmatic functions of the Modern Chinese Compound sentences. |
