| Deconstruction, also known as post-structuralism, is of an anti-traditional trend originated in France in 1960s. It has the features of anti-logocentrism, anti-authority, anti-reason, and anti-structure. Deconstruction is contrary to the traditional structuralism, aiming to overthrow the monism theory, which is deeply rooted in people's minds and is of a primitive, a center and an absolute truth. Deconstruction advocates the use of dynamic, developing and dialectical philosophy to deal with the problem. As deconstruction philosophers put forward their views actively on one hand , they often take on the problem of translation to clarify their philosophy outlooks on the other hand, that is, deconstruction translation outlook. As Wang Dongfeng said:"what deconstruction concerns about in translation is some problems in language, which often can be adequately demonstrated on the platform of translation."Deconstruction philosophy has transfused new energy and vitality into the research of translation, expanding the horizon of translation research, gradually forming a School of Deconstruction Translation. The traditional view of translation, due to the influence of traditional structuralism, indicates that translation aims"to seek common ground"to the greatest extent to reduce the barrier from information exchange, efficiently to achieve the expected function and purpose of translated works. The viewpoints of"faithful","loyalty"and"equivalence"are the golden rules advocated by the traditional translation theory. However, in the perspective of scholars of deconstruction, it is impossible to achieve the goal. They believe that, the meaning of the text is flowing, changeable and developing, ultimately being elusive. Different languages result in different expressions due to the semantic, syntactic and phonetic differences. As a matter of fact, the task of translation is to seek a delicate balance between the differences. Deconstruction, by dismantling binary opposition, gives us a deeper understanding of the difference between languages and the language-specific expressions. This means that the differences between languages in the translation process should not be hidden, but should be shown. Therefore, the purpose of deconstruction translation outlook is not to"seek similarities", but to"reserve differences". From the perspective of translation practice , the task of translation is to express and protect the differences between different languages, not to hide these differences. In this sense, the theory is completely different from the traditional translation theory. In the process of translation practice, although the translators strive to find correspondence between original language and target language , the differences and unique characteristics between languages should not be sheltered and disappear during the process, which is always objectively existing. And the difference and the essence of original text are supposed to reserve. In translation teaching class, the students should be encouraged to display their imagination and initiative to do so rather than be restricted by"standard translation models". From the perspective of translation criticism standards, traditional translation criticism standards, which are based on"faithfulness", are supposed to be broken and some"pluralistic and dynamic"standards are needed to take their place. |
