Research About The Xilou Of Khitan

The concept of the Khitan Xilou was not been taken seriously by Academia for a long time. Since few scholars to study the issue which was insufficient information, researchers can't conduct in-depth study. There always exist a problem about the precise definition of the Khitan Xilou in academia. For a long time, the Xilou is be defined from the standpoint of Chinese by most people, and they can't understand the importance of the Xilou for the development of Khitan people. Few Scholars think that the Xilou isn't just the surface meaning of Chinese,but due to limited, it can't find the true meaning of the Khitan XilouKhitan is affected by neighboring nation and take in the Cultural factors of other ethnic in its development process, one is the Turkic. Historically, the Khitan had been controlled by the Turks. Because that both of them have many similarities on lifestyle,mode of production and religious belief are the same as nomadic people , so There are a lot of cultural factors of the Turkic in the Khitan culture. After the Turk decline, the Khitan has to submit to the Uighur.Uighur and Turkic are the same race, and Turks have many similar customs and habits, and use the same language. This period can be seen as the continuation of influence by the Turkish Khitan didn't have language ,so they have to learn Turkic. In fact, the Khitan language contains loan words from Turkic. " Xilou " is introduced into the Khitan from the Turkish,it means "K?yler" in Turkish. In modern times, it means the village,prestige, In ancient times,it means "tribal" For the Khitan, the "Xilou" is the "location of the big village" which was referred to in historyKhitan Xilou have both narrow and broad meaning. Narrow Xilou is the predecessor to the Upper Capital of Liao Dynasty; in a broad sense,it is centered on the Upper Capital of Liao Dynasty,including the wide geographical area. This region is the central area where the Khitan ethnic live and develop for long.The Xilou has a great importance for the Khitan nation, and .throughout their lives. The Xilou isn't only the cradle of the Khitan ethnic,but is the center area where they has been lived. Xilou play an important role in the Khitan history. The Xilou is not only the rule center ,but is the location of the Upper Capital of Liao Dynasty which lasted 200 years. After the perish of the Liao Dynasty, the Upper Capital of Liao Dynasty doesn't exist, but the Xilou is still record as the main activity area of the Khitan people in chinese annals. After the Ming dynasty, the Khitan gradually integrated into other ethnic groups,with the disappearance of the Khitan people ,the Xilou also gradually fade out the stage of history.
