| This thesis mainly examines and analyzes the initiation journey of the protagonist, Holden Caulfield, from the angle of the bildungsroman, so to penetrate the adolescent crisis and decode their thinking in the post-World War II American society. With the detailed analysis of the initiation journey of typical troubled adolescent—Holden, this thesis is intended to get deeper penetration of the inner world of the adolescents, appeal for adults'timely guidance to them, and help them understand the nowadays society around them. This thesis mainly focuses on Holden's initiation journey from Holden's puzzlement, rebellion, and pursuit to his compromise from the perspective of an adolescent, to uncover the values and the attitudes the novel conveyed. Holden's great suffering in his initiation journey is not only because of his adolescent psychological problems, but due to the indifferent human relationship in the corrupted post-World War II American society as well. |
