ObjectivesTo provide objective diagnosis index for forensic pathology or forensic poison analysis on death of acute ethylene glycol poisoning by studying on SD rats which are given ethylene glycol through the mouth.MethodsThe perfusion dose of ethylene glycol is 12ml/kg in this experiment. Animals are divided into two groups :acute ethylene glycol poisoning group and normal control group. Each group will be carried out biochemical indicator,histomorphology,TEM observation and forensic poisoning detection. All input data using computers and software for statistical analysis of statistical.Results1. SD rats which suffered acute ethylene glycol poisoning, have varying degrees of damage in the heart, liver, kidneys and spleen, especially in the kidney.2. Significant damage to vessel wall is present in all organs : endothelium cells swelling and come off,the nucleus become long and deep, smooth muscle degeneration,fibrinoid necrosis,inflammatory cell infiltrates, and there is thrombus formation in some lumen.3. Histological observation on the liver and kidneys, you can see cast of light blue crystals formation. Round or oval high density electronic particles are observed by TEM in renal tubule epithelia, and medium density materials are observed in the tubular lumen.4. There are some multinucleated giant cells in the spleen, especially in the spleen of SD rats which poisoning for 12 days.5. Acute ethylene glycol poisoning result functional lesion of liver and kidney, as well as fluid and electrolyte imbalances.6. Gas Chromatograph is a quick and accurate method for detection of ethylene glycol in blood. Obviously ethylene glycol peak appeared in the appropriate retention period poisoning for less than 2 days in this detection experiment, and there is positive correlation between the size of the peak and the dose of the drug filled in the stomach. But no ethylene glycol was detected in blood of SD rats which poisoning for 4,8,12 days.Conclusions1. Ethylene glycol poisoning result damage in the heart, liver and kidneys confirmed from chemical indicators and morphology , especially in the kidneys(target organ).2. Ethylene glycol poisoning result damage to vessel wall.3. Cast of light blue crystals formatted in the liver and kidneys of animals with ethylene glycol poisoning (especially in the kidneys). 4. There are some multinucleated giant cells in the spleen of animals with ethylene glycol poisoning.5. Fluid and electrolyte imbalances is a result of ethylene glycol poisoning.6. Poison detection of ethylene glycol poisoning: About poisoning within two days, we can detect ethylene glycol ;while, about poisoning more than two days, we can detect it,s metabolite.
