Objective : To investigate the relationship between macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) gene and and diabetic nephrophthy (DN) in Chinese population. Methods: 170 diabetic paitients and 125 healthy person were recruited. The blood and urine of the 295 person were collected .The diabetic patients were divided into the diabetic with no diabetic nephropath group (UAER<20μg/min )(DM) and the diabetic nephropath group (UAER≥20μg/min)(DN) according to the urine albumin excretion rate(UAER).Migration inhibitory factor-173 genotypes were investigated with PCR-RFLP.The concentration of MIF in urine were exzamined by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay. Results: The frequence of blood macrophage migration inhibitory factor -173 polymorphism was significantly increased in the diabetic nephropathy group than the other group ( P<0.05 ) .The urine MICconcentration were significantly increased in the DM and DN group than the normal control group(P<0.01). The urine MIC concentration were significantly increased in the DN group than the DM group. The urine MIF concentration of diabetic nephropathy were positive related with the 24h urinary protein. Conclusion: MIF-173 genotype distribution was highly related to diabetic nephropathy, the high frequency of MIF-173 allele C is a high-risk factor for the occurrence of diabetic nephropathy, and the concentration of MIF in urine may possibly be a potential criterion for diabetic nephropathy diagnosis.
