Objective To explore the related factors of liver damage in children with congenital choledochal cyst(CCC).Methods Forty-six clinical datas of congenital choledochal cyst were analysesed from January 2005 to December 2009. According to the age, forty-six cases were divided into two groups:group A had seventeen cases(ranged three months to three years old); group B had twenty-nine cases (ranged four to fourteen years old). A retrospective analysis of them was conducted in the clinical characteristics, hepatic pathological changes, perioperatively liver function, biliary amylase and biliary component in cyst. Results Group A was obvious higher than group B in jaundice, white bole stool and abdominal mass, but group B was more in stomachache. Group A was obvious higher than group B in liver function lesion, group A comparedwith group B was significant (P<0.05).Density of total bile acid of all serums is supercommon, group A compared with group B was significant (P<0.05). The density of the total lipids, the bile acid and the cholesterin from bile in cyst obviously degraded. The density of the bile acid have the most obviously degraded. In eight cases of group A and five cases of group B, Calculus and albumen epistom were found in the cyst. In twelve cases of group A and twenty-three cases of group B, stenosis and atresia were found in distal end. In five cases of group B and all in group B, bouchement were found in the distal end. Cholestasis were found in sixteen cases of group A and five cases of group B. Liver cirrhosis were found in six cases of group A and seven cases of group B.Conclusions CCC may lead to the injury of liver function in different age group. They had the self characteristics in infants and children. The little the age,the larger the cyst, the worse the obstruction, the worse the liver cirrhosis. Obstruction of the bile ducts is the main cause of liver injury. The density of the bile acid from bile in cyst degraded which secondarily induced liver damage.
