Objective: To study the relationship and the expressions of COX-2, E-cad, MMP-7 and MMP-2 in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) in Xinjiang Uygur and Han. Methods: RT-PCR was used to detect the mRNA of COX-2, E-cad, MMP-7 and MMP-2 in 60 cases of the ESCC and adjacent non-carcinoma tissues. Results: The positive rates of COX-2, E-cad, MMP-7 and MMP-2 expressions in 60 cases of the esophageal carcinoma tissues were 73.3%, 88.3%, 90.0% and 91.7%, respectively. The expressions of COX-2, MMP-7 and MMP-2 in ESCC were significantly higher than in adjacent non-carcinoma tissues (P < 0.05). Semiquantitative analysis, expressions of COX-2, MMP-7 and MMP-2 have statistical significance in ESCC and adjacent non-carcinoma tissues (P < 0.05). The positive expression rate of MMP-7 in ESCC was significantly correlated with lymph node metastasis (P < 0.05). There were negative correlations between E-cad and COX-2, MMP-7 and MMP-2. The expression of MMP-2 was positively correlated with COX-2 and MMP-7. Conclusion: The expressions of COX-2, E-cad, MMP-7 and MMP-2 among Uygur and Han in Xinjiang have common way. Expressions of COX-2, MMP-7 and MMP-2 in ESCC were significantly higher than in adjacent non-carcinoma tissues. The over-expression of MMP-7 was correlated with lymph node metastasis of ESCC. Over-expression of COX-2, MMP-7 and MMP-2 were correlated with reduction or loss of E-cad expression.
