Objectives: Observed stroke volume variability obtained by FloTrac/ Vigileo system in correlation with the change of volume. Methods: Forty-eight male patients with gastric cancer, aged from 50 to 60 yrs, no cardio-pulmonary disturbance (ASAⅠorⅡ), were chose in the study. On arrival to the operating theatre, a baseline fluid administration of RLS 10 ml/kg was started. Anaesthesia was induced by fentanyl (4μg/kg), propofol (2 mg/kg), and cis-atracurium (0.15 mg/kg) and maintained with sevoflurane at a minimum alveolar concentration of 0.8. After tracheal intubation, volume-controlled ventilation with tidal volume 8 ml/kg, and ventilatory frequency between 10 and 12 bpm to achieve an end-tidal carbon dioxide partial pressure between 30and 40 mmHg was initiated. After induc- tion of anaesthesia, a catheter was inserted in the left radial artery as part of the standard monitoring and connected additionally to the FloTrac/Vigileo system (Edwards Lifesciences, USA, version 1.3) to obtain SVV, CO, SV and CI measurements. Central venous pressure (CVP) was recorded through cannulation. 6% hydroxyethyl statch(HES130/0.4) was given i.v in 9 series of stage, that is 2 ml·kg-1, 4ml·kg-1,6 ml·kg-1,8 ml·kg-1,10 ml·kg-1,12 ml·kg-1,14 ml·kg-1,16 ml·kg-1,18 ml·kg-1,with speed of 0.67ml·kg-1·min-1. Correlation analysis of data stroke volume variation to assess the degree of correlation with fluid therapy. Results: The correlation coefficient(rs) of CO, SV, CI and SVV,obtained by APCO, using the FloTrac/Vigileo system, to fluid volume were SVV:-(0.91±0.06),CO: 0.83±0.04,SV:0.86±0.09,CI:0.86±0.09, respectively. The rs of SVV was significant higher than that of CO, SV, CI.Conclusions: This study demonstrates that SVV obtained by APCO, using the FloTrac/Vigileo system, was negatively correlated with the change of volume.
