Objective: To investigate retrospectively and analyze the clinical data of acute pancreatitis (acute pancreatitis, AP) patients who hospitalized in the last two years, and to explore the indexs of acute pancreatitis'severity and prognosis for early assessment. Methods: To study retrospectively 125 cases of AP-patients'clinical data ,which from January 2008 to December 2009 at the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University, and to record the general condition of the patients (such as age, gender, height, weight, etc),cause, clinical manifestations, laboratory and imaging findings(CT),and complications.According to treatment guidelines for acute pancreatitis which is formulated by pancreatic diseases group of the digestive diseases branch of Chinese Medical Assosciation in 2004) ,we divided acute pancreatitis into mild acute pancreatitis (mild acute pancreatitis, MAP) and severe acute pancreatitis (severe acute pancreatitis, SAP) , and made a comparative analysis of two groups to select the useful indexs of acute pancreatitis'severity and prognosis for early assessment. Results: (1) The two groups of MAP and SAP in sex, etiology and serum amylase were not significantly different (P> 0.05). (2) Fasting blood glucose (FBG),hematocrit (HCT),body mass index (BMI) of SAP group were significantly higher than MAP group (P <0.05),and calcium (Ca),serum albumin (ALB) levels of SAP group were significantly lower than MAP group (P <0.05). (3) The levels of serum C-reactive protein went up significantly both in MAP group and SAP group at the first day after being admitted to hospital, and the SAP group were significantly higher than the MAP group (P <0.05) at the first day,the third day and the seventh day. (4) By means of serum calcium <2.0 mmol / L, albumi <32 g / L at the first day after being admitted to hospital and C-reactive protein≥ 150mg/L at the third day after being admitted to hospital for diagnostic tests, the sensitivity which determine the severity and prognosis of acute pancreatitis were 62.5%,72.5%,82.0%, and the sensitivity increased to 94.5% when this three indexs joint together. Conclusion: Low serum calcium, hypoalbuminemia, high C-reactive protein, high blood sugar, high hematocrit and obesity were early clinical indicators of assessment about the severity and prognosis of acute pancreatitis.
