objective:To understand the association of levels of plasma homocysteine in hypertensives with carotid artery thickness, gender, age, smoking, drinking, glucose and blood lipid. Methods:Select hypertensives 250 cases in March 2007-March 2008 in the People Hospital of Xin Jiang Autonomous Region, investigate of levels of plasma homocysteine, intima-media thickness(IMT), blood lipids, blood glucose, and smoking, drinking related risk factors, the subjects are divided into non-high HCY Group (≤15umol/L) and high HCY group(> 15umol/L).Results:①the levels of plasma homocysteine increased with hypertension in hypertensives②compare with high HCY group and non-high HCY group, the IMT of right internal carotid artery, left common carotid artery, left internal carotid artery are higher in high HCY group than non-high group, P<0.05; after divided by gender analysis, the IMT of right common carotid artery, right internal carotid artery, left common carotid artery, left internal carotid artery are higher in high HCY group than non-high group in male group, the IMT of left common carotid artery, left internal carotid artery are higher in high HCY group than non-high group in female group, P<0.05.③the levels of plasma homocysteine related positively with right internal carotid artery, left common carotid artery, left internal carotid artery, P<0.05, the levels of plasma homocysteine related negatively with HDL, P<0.05.Conclusion:The levels of plasma homocysteine are related positively with carotid artery thickness, negatively with high density lipoprotein and increased with hypertension in hypertensives.
