Objective To investigate the effects of glutathione on inflammatory response and vascular endothelial function in patients with essential hypertension. Methods Sixty-eight in-hospital patients with essential hypertension were randomly recruited from December 2008 to December 2009. The diagnostic criteria and blood pressure measurement method refer to 2005 "Chinese Hypertension Prevention Guideline" revision.Sujects with secondary hypertension or with disease of high inflammatory response in vivo state were excluded. The patients were randomly divided into two groups: control group (conventional therapy group CG): Nifedipine GITS + enalapril (n = 34); treatment group(test group TG): all the treatement of control group + injection glutathione (2.4g, ivgtt, qd, n = 34).All patients were treated for 14 days respectively. Fasting plasma levels of HS-CRP,IL-6,NO,ET were measured at baseline and 14days after treatments. Thirty healthy persons who were out-patient health check over the same period were randomly chosen as healthy control group (normal group NG).SPSS13.0 statistical packages were used for analysis. p 0.05). After treatment, the levels of HS-CRP, IL-6, ET reduced in the two groups (P <0.05),but the experimental group reduced even more significantly(P <0.05);After treatment, the level of NO increased in the two groups (P <0.05),but the experimental group increased even more significantly(P <0.05).Conclusions The levels of HS-CRP, IL-6, ET in hypertensive patients were higher than healthy people, the level of NO was lower than healthy people;Glutathione significantly reduced the levels of HS-CRP, IL-6, ET and increased the level of NO in patients with essential hypertension.
