Objective: With the development of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) technology and the advancement or perfection of the related drugs, the indications of PCI are expanding, the proportion of PCI of the complex coronary artery disease are progressively increasing such as left main coronary artery disease, coronary bifurcation disease and multi-vessel coronary artery disease. And there is a gradually increasing trend of the number and total length of stents implanted into coronary arteries. There is no general conclusion about the doubts that whether the improvement of QOL of PCI patients is proportional to the number and total length of stents and whether it is the bigger of the number and total length, the higher of QOL of PCI patients. In this paper, the comparative analysis of the preoperative and postoperative life of PCI patients has been done to analyze the quality of preoperative and postoperative QOL of multi-vessel coronary artery disease patients and to study the effect of the number and total length of stents on QOL of the PCI patients with the Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey, so as to provide the clinical references for PCI therapeutic schedule. Methods: The 166 multi-vessel coronary artery disease patients were selected as the study objects, who have been done elective PCI and implanted DES in the department of cardiology of NO.1 affiliated hospital of Henan University of Science and Technology from September, 2008 to March 2010. There are 108 men and 58 women, the average age is 62.3±9.2. By the number of stents implanted into coronary arteries, all the study objects are respectively divided into SSG group (1 stent), DSG (2 stents) and MSG group (multi stents). And by the total length L of stents implanted into coronary arteries, all the study objects are respectively divided into SG group (L<18mm), MG group (18mm≤L<36mm), LG group (36mm≤L<72mm) and XG group (72mm≤L). After the patients in hospital, preparing to collect the general information and perform the related tests, and research the preoperative QOL of patients before PCI one day, and record the number and total length of stents implanted in PCI. Six months later, to collect the postoperative QOL of patients and the data of major adverse cardiac events, then to analyze the eight dimensionalities'values of the preoperative and postoperative QOL of patients and the incidence of major adverse cardiac events to study the effect of the number and total length of stents on QOL of PCI patients. Results: (1) The immediate success rate of PCI of all the cases is 98.2%, there are 3 cardiac tamponade (1.8%) in or after PCI. There are 8 angina recurrence (4.8%), 7 subacute stent thrombosis (4.2%), 8 stent restenosis (4.8%), 9 target-vessel revascularization (5.4%), and no cardiac death in all the patients. The bigger of the number and total length, there are the more major adverse cardiac events in the patients (P<0.05).(2) There are not statistical significance among the scores of the eight dimensionalities of the preoperative or postoperative QOL in the three groups of SSG, DSG and MSG (P>0.05). But there are statistical significance between the scores of the preoperative and postoperative QOL of the six dimensionalities such as physical function (PF), role physical (RP), bodily pain (BP), vitality (VT), social function (SF), and role emotional (RE) (P<0.05), and there are not statistical significance between the scores of the preoperative and postoperative QOL of the two dimensionalities of general health (GH) and mental health (MH) (P>0.05) in the three groups.(3) There are not statistical significance among the scores of the eight dimensionalities of the preoperative or postoperative QOL in the four groups of SG, MG, LG and XG (P>0.05). But there are statistical significance between the scores of the preoperative and postoperative QOL of the six dimensionalities such as PF, RP, BP, VT, SF, and RE (P<0.05), and there are not statistical significance between the scores of the preoperative and postoperative QOL of the two dimensionalities of GH and MH (P>0.05) in the four groups. Conclusion: PCI can improve the QOL of patients effectively, but there is no significant relationship between the QOL of patients and the number and total length of stents implanted in PCI. The QOL of patients dose not increases with the increasement of the number and total length of stents implanted in PCI.
