Objective: To study the effects of folic acid and vitamins B on pulmonary embolism induced by homocysteine .Methods:The rabbits which were divided into three groups were studied : The first 10 received methionine ; 10 received methionine and parenteral folic acid and vitamins B ; 10 received standard diet. After being raised for 4 weeks, all rabbits were made model of pulmonary embolism through external jugular vein then sacrificed after 24H. before and after embolization, blood samples were taken to detect D-dimer, ET, NO . when 24 hours passed after embolization,experimental animals were killed by anesthesia overdose, lung and aorta were taken to conduct gross observation. Then perform pathological section, observe the degree and scope of embolization and changes about tissue.Results: 1. symptoms and signs A, B group of animals breathing and heart rate speed up after embolization, Some animals also performanced signs of cyanosis, nasal flap, increased respiratory rate. A small number of animals could be heard wet rales. Immediately symptoms appeared after the embolization , and after 1-2 hours these symptoms disappear. the frequency and extent of the symptoms of A group animals were larger than B, B group and C group were similar 2. general performance and the performance of microscopic pathology in general animal lungs after embolization showed hemorrhagic necrosis, and more in the lower lung, the right side . A group of embolization was stronger than the B group ,B group and C group were similar. embolus could be found along the pulmonary artery branches. Aortic general concept: aorta of A group shows uneven.these could not be found in B group and C group . 3. endoscopic features intimal hyperplasia in A group showed 5 to 10 layers , Intimal damage and fracture and inflammatory cell infiltration could be found. Medial smooth muscle performenced cell proliferation, elastin fibers were loose, gaps widened. intimal cell of B group was single layer , medial smooth muscle cells were in order. In the embolization area, bleeding, edem of A group was much larger than the degree of B group. B group and C group were similar. 4. ET, D-dimer value increased after embolization, while the NO decreased after embolization. There were statistical difference between group A and group B, between group B and group C ,there were not significant differenceConclusion: 1. using autologous blood clot to make model of pulmonary embolism through jugular vein is easy to operate and highly successful. The method is close to the pathogenesis and the development process of pulmonary embolism. 2. methionine animals appear atherosclerosis, arterial intimal thickening, and extent of thrombosis is greater than the intervention group. 3. Application of folic acid and B vitamins can lower homocysteine, in the same time, reduce the degree of pulmonary embolism.
