ObjectiveTo investigate the effects of recombinant human erythropoietin In acute lung injury (ALI) induced by cecals ligation and puncture in rat.MethodsTotals of 30 normal healthy Sprague Dawley (SD) rat weighing 250~280g was randomly divided sham operation groups, control groups and treatment groups. Rats in Sham group underwent only laparotomy and suture;Rats in treatment group received 1000 U/kg intramuscular rhEPO immediately after undergoing cecals ligation and puncture; rats in control group were given 1 mL normal saline instead. Both control. All animals were sacrificed at postoperative 12 hours. Light microscopic was used to examize the samples of pulmonary tissue. Wet/Dry ratio (W/D),MDA,SOD,MPO activity and NO of lung tissue were measured with suitable methods.ResultsComparing with control group, Treatment group marked a lower lung histological injury and a significant decrease in W/D ratio,MPO activity,MDA as well as NO levels in the lung tissue. SOD of lung tissue in treatment group is lower than sham group but higher than control group.ConclusionRecombinant human erythropoietin has protective effects on ALI induced by cecal ligation and puncture in rats.
