Objective: To investigate the expression and significance of Neuropilin-1 in the different stages of infantile hemangioma and the normal skin.Materials and Methods: 47 cases of infantile hemangioma (IH) from Wuhan Union Hospital from january 2007 to march 2010, were included in this study as the experimental group, which didn't do pre-operative treatment. A total of 10 cases of normal skin tissues was collected during the same period as the control group . we examined the expression of Neuropilin-1 in proliferating and involuting IH and normal human skin tissues by using immunohistochemistry. The SPSS 12.0 software and the image-pro plus 6.0 was applied to measure the expression level of Neuropilin-1 indifferent stages of IH and in normal skin tissues. Results: The expression of Neuropilin-1 was significantly higher in proliferating IH than in involuting IH(P<0.05), and it was also significantly higher in involuting IH than in normal skin tissues(P<0.05).Conclusion: It suggests that Neuropilin-1 might play an important role in the proliferation of endothelial cells and angiogenesis in infantile hemangioma.
