Objective To investigate the expression of Syndecan-1, E-cadherin and CD44v3 in endometrial carcinoma tissue and to explore its correlation with clinical behavior and pathological character, as to investigate the relationship between Syndecan-1, E-cadherin and CD44v3 and the development, metastasis of endometrial cancer. Methods A total of 56 specimens of endometrial carcinoma were evaluated by immunohistochemical technique to detect Syndecan-1, E-cadherin and CD44v3.Twenty normal endometria and twenty atypical hyperplasia endometria were used for control. Results (1) The strongly positive expression rate of Syndecan-1 in normal endometrium, atypical hyperplasia endometrium and endometrial carcinoma was 30.00%,45.00%,71.43% respectively. The rate of endometrial carcinoma was obviously higher. There was significant difference among endometrial carcinoma and normal endometrium and atypical hyperplasia endometrium (P<0.05); In endometrial carcinoma, no relations was found between Syndecan-1 and patient's age, nationality, menelipsis, and histological type (P>0.05). The strongly positive expression rate of syndecan-1 was significant difference between pathological grade, myometrial invasion and surgical stage(P<0.05). (2) The strongly positive expression rate of E-cadherin in normal endometrium, atypical hyperplasia endometrium and endometrial carcinoma was 85.00%, 70.00%, 41.07% respectively. The rate of endometrial carcinoma was obviously lower. There was significant difference among endometrial carcinoma and normal endometrium and atypical hyperplasia endometrium (P<0.05). In endometrial carcinoma, no relations was found between E-cadherin and patient's age, nationality, menelipsis, histological type and myometrial invasion (P>0.05). The strongly positive expression rate of E-cadherin was significant difference between pathological grade and surgical stage(P<0.05). (3) The positive expression of CD44v3 is not be observed in normal endometrium, atypical hyperplasia endometrium and endometrial carcinoma. (4) The expression of Syndecan-1 and E-cadherin in endometrial carcinoma existed significant correlation(rs=-0.275,P=0.040).Conclusions (1) The strongly positive expression rate of Syndecan-1 in endometrial carcinoma was obviously higher than that in normal endometrium and atypical hyperplasia endometrium. The strongly positive expression rate of E-cadherin in endometrial carcinoma was lower than that in normal endometrium.and atypical hyperplasia endometrium. Syndecan-1 and E-cadherin was correlated with occurrence of endometrial carcinoma . (2) In endometrial carcinoma, the expression of Syndecan-1 and E-cadherin are correlated with invasion and metastasis, which may be two of markers of more maligant and poor prognosis. (3) Investigating of Syndecan-1 and E-cadherin may help to understand and evaluate the maligant condition of endometrial carcinoma. (4)There may be not correlation between CD44v3 and endometrial carcinoma.
